Information For Prospective Buyers
When we plan a breeding, we do so with the principal intention of retaining
a puppy or puppies that will further
our own program. We then offer other
puppies to carefully screened new owners with a guarantee of lifelong
mentoring in whatever activity or interest they may have for their Belaya
Whippet. We do not, as a rule, stipulate that participation in any one
activity (showing, coursing, etc.) be a condition of sale, but we are
especially pleased when our owners choose this, and we do offer extensive
help with whatever training is needed for that activity.
With the strong belief that it is irresponsible to carry forward any trait
that would limit a healthy life or be a liability to our owners we do test
for genetically transmitted deafness, eye and heart anomalies. We have five
generations of normal BAER (hearing) testing, and test all puppies at six
weeks. We also test eyes annually beginning at one year and all breeding
stock has current CERF certification. We check hearts at 6 weeks and provide
all vaccinations needed before the age of one year with the exception of
Rabies which must be administered by a veterinarian. We provide ongoing
information on correct nutrition and keep in close touch with our owners for
at least the first year. Many have become dear, long-term friends, and
several have gone on to acquiring their second (or third) Whippet from us.
